On April 14, 2003, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be celebrating her 26th birthday. This year also marks the 7th and last year of her (full time) portrayal of the young TV heroine we've all come to know and love as Buffy Summers. So, in honor of her birthday and to thank her for the 7 exemplary years of being Buffy, SMGFAN.com invites you to take part in The SMG Birthday and Appreciation Project (The SMG BAP).

From March 1, 2003 to April 30, 2003, SMGFAN.com will be collecting donations to benefit two charities: First Book and The Amanda Foundation. All money raised will be donated in Sarah's name.

First Book "is a national nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. The primary goal of First Book is to work with existing literacy programs to distribute new books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books. In the last two years alone, First Book has provided almost 15 million new books to children in need in hundreds of communities nationwide." Sarah fans know how much she loves to read and what better way to share the joy and excitement of reading than to help make sure that others especially less fortunate children are given the opportunity to experience the magic of books. Reading opens up worlds of possibilities and inspires imagination and creativity. We believe that these are the seeds to a brighter future for the children of the world.

The Amanda Foundation "is a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, are spending their last days at City and County Shelters. It was founded in 1976 and has since placed thousands of homeless animals" in loving homes. Sarah fans know her love for dogs. She shares her home and life with two of her own. Sadly, not all pets are as lucky as Thor and Tyson. Many animals suffer from cruelty, abuse or abandonment. We hope that our collective effort would help rescue even just a few of these helpless animals.

The SMG BAP has now ended. We wish to thank all our donors for their generosity. If you would still like to make a charitable contribution to First Book or The Amanda Foundation, please visit their sites for info on how to do this. Again, we thank you for your support.
