Glenn: We recently talked with Charisma Carpenter and Julie Benz, and they shared some experiences from their first days on the Buffy set. Could you tell us about your first day on the set, and what you felt as you first walked in?

Danny Strong (DS): My first day on the set was for the unaired pilot presentation, many, many years ago, so it's hard to recall those first experiences. The project was kind of a joke around town because it was a TV show of a failed movie, so there wasn't exactly any hype around it. I remember thinking the script was really cool, and that this might do better than people think. I only had one line in the show, so it wasn't as if I thought I was going to be a big part of this experience if the show was picked up.

JPM: Working on Buffy must've been an interesting ride. What was the most satisfying experience you ever had on the show?

DS: The most satisfying experience on the show for me was working with Tom Lenk and Adam Busch. We had such a great time together, and the material we had was very rich, so it was an all around great experience.

JPM: What was it like working with Sarah?

DS: Sarah was great to me the whole run of the show. Very generous, and I felt like she would look out for me. Whisper helpful tidbits in my ear about conserving energy and stuff like that. She was great, and a really talented actress.

JPM: Are you surprised by the amount of support and devotion that the Buffy fans have shown (is showing) you? I read that the fans helped you with a good portion of the almost $7000 you raised for the National Aids Marathon, which you did earlier this year. It was also the second highest amount raised.

DS: I am totally overwhelmed by the fans. I think they are so cool, and I have a great time meeting them. Everyone is smart, well read and fun. The amount they donated to my AIDS run was really wonderful. It just felt like everyone was doing good, using this show to make a difference in the world beyond just the show itself. What's better than that?

Glenn: You've worked with a lot of different productions - you seem to popup all over the place. What has been your favorite role?

DS: I don't really have a favorite role. Jonathan has been the most complex part I've had on television, but I've had some great experiences with other shows as well. I really love working on the "Gilmore Girls." Most of my experiences on all productions have been positive. I've worked with a few commercial directors that were total egomaniacs. Just bad guys, but overall I've been fortunate to get work with some really talented people.

Glenn: Your credits include quite a bit of theatre work, and you've expressed a fondness for Neil Simon. Is there any particular theatrical role you would most like to play which you haven't yet?

DS: I've always wanted to play Treplev in "The Seagull". That would be at the top of my list. Also Jonathan in "Oh Dad Poor Dad Mama's Hung in the Closet and I'm Feeling so Sad" by Arthur Kopit. That's another one I really want to do.

JPM: Besides acting, you're also an aspiring writer and we've heard that you've written a couple of scripts. Perhaps someday you'd be venturing into directing and producing as well. Do you have a dream project?

DS: All your info is right about the writing and directing. I do have a dream project, but I don't want to talk about it. People love to steal ideas in this business.

Glenn: Do you prefer one medium over another, or do you enjoy television work as much as theatre work?

DS: I enjoy theater the most because it is the most exhilirating to perform. When you shoot a film or TV show, you piece it together and never get that sense of accomplishment you get from an audience. On TV you don't bow when it's over.

JPM: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

DS: I think I would have the power to heal.

Glenn: Do you have any projects in the works that fans should watch for in the coming year?

DS: I do have some projects in the works, but the deals haven't closed yet, so I'd rather not talk about them. I don't want to jinx it, but I should know in the next few weeks if they are going to happen. Also, I hope to go back to Gilmore Girls this season, I think the odds of that are pretty good.

JPM: What would you say is your greatest achievement so far, not as an actor but as a human being?

DS: I don't think I have a greatest achievement yet. Right now I am volunteering for the John Kerry campaign, and this is the most important thing I have ever done in my life. I truly believe that George Bush and Dick Cheney are tremendous threats to not only our own security, but the world's, and that we must do everything we can to remove them from office.
