How long has Sarah been acting?

Sarah started acting when she was 4. She was eating in a restaurant when a talent agent approached her and asked if she'd like to be in showbusiness. The rest is history. Check out the Biography section for more info on her career.

Will I get something back if I write to her?

There is no guarantee that you'll get something if you write her, but most people that send mail to the studios get sent back a 4x7 pre-printed autographed picture of Sarah. She used to read all her mail and send back a personalized autographed picture and sometimes, a hand written letter, but she just doesn't have time to read all of her mail and respond to everyone now. While she does read a lot of her mail, she uses a service called Studio Fan Mail to handle responses.

It's not our place to make statements about her character, but what we do know of her is that she is a nice person who is very down to earth and devoted to her fans (check out the special messages she has sent the fans through this site). However, she has always taken her career very seriously and strives to keep her privacy. Many people confuse this with being a snob or a diva. She treats the people that work for and with her the way anyone would in a business and if they're doing something wrong, she is likely to tell them. Unfortunately, her assertiveness and focus are often misinterpreted as negative qualities. Sarah isn't perfect. She is 'just another young woman striving to succeed in her chosen profession. She is, behind all the Hollywood hoopla, simply SMG!' (JPM)

Sarah's e-mail address is private. If you want to get in touch with her, send your letter to the address mentioned above. If you want to meet her, then you'll have to wait until she does a promotional event in your area. We cannot help anyone meet her. Her home mailing address is just as private as her home telephone number for obvious reasons. Sarah has had some real problems in the past with people showing up at her home, and for these reasons likes to keep her personal information private. We DO NOT have any of her private info.

I want more pictures of Sarah/How can I help her career?

The best thing you can do is write letters. Actual letters, not e-mail. To help with Buffy, you can send letters of support to UPN. Even more important, send letters to your local affiliate that carries the show. If you want more pictures of Sarah, write to magazines and ask for more pictures and articles on her. A few letters like this can have a surprisingly large influence on the magazines and has helped increase coverage of her in the past.

In February 2003, Sarah announced that she has decided not to renew her contract for another season (8th) of Buffy. On May 20, 2003, the show aired its series finale. We at SMGFAN.com will continue to support Sarah in all her future endeavors. We're sure that all her fans will too.

Why don't you put up more personal information about Sarah? I've heard a rumor that...

The site owners are commited to preserving and respecting Sarah's privacy. This site is very mindful of posting anything that Sarah or her agents haven't made public knowledge or said in an interview. If there's an unsubstantiated article out discussing her private life, it also won't be put up. We understand the curiosity that many fans have but it wouldn't be very respectful of us to go along with the tabloids and put unconfirmed info on site. This cuts down on rumors and prevents our site from turning into a gossip column. Her private life is her business. SMGFAN.com focuses on her public and professional lives. This is also the very reason we are against the posting of 'paparazzi' photos on this site.

I sent you a wallpaper or fanart picture, why isn't it up in the gallery?

There could be a few reasons for this. The biggest one is that we just haven't gotten around to it yet. The site has become so big and busy that more of our free time is required to maintain it. Unfortunately, that free time is limited because of our hectic personal and professional lives. But we try to do our best to update the fan art/wallpaper section as often as we can.

Also, due to bandwidth issues, if you send us a wallpaper that is not wallpaper size (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc...), then we will either not use it, or we will put it in the fanart section. If you do send wallpaper, please send something that is at least 800x600. This ensures that a lot more people can view it then if it's just 640x480. We also don't put up pictures that are too small. Sometimes someone will send us a very small drawing and it's too small to put in the gallery, so we save them for use on another part of the site if possible.

Lastly, the biggest cause of not using wallpapers is because of the way they're done. We almost never put up wallpapers that are just a bunch of pictures cropped onto a background. That includes most collages. Most of these take very little effort, and are hardly ever downloaded by anyone. Because we get so many of them, it would take up an enormous amount of space to put them up. We also don't put up any pictures that have simply been run through an image filter. An example of this is a picture that has had a negative filter applied to it. You don't have to be a Picasso at digital editing, you just have to create something that's original. Wallpapers can be very simple as long as they're done effectively. A wallpaper with a plain white background and 1 picture of Sarah on it can be very nice if it's done well and attention is placed to things like where the desktop icons will go. REMEMBER to tag your artwork appropriately!

I saw a picture of Sarah on another site that you don't have. Why not?

There are a couple of reasons for this. One is that sites sometimes have different sources and contributors. Also, if someone scanned a picture, it's not really fair for us to put it up when they took the time to do it and wanted to have it as an original to their site. This applies to 'special' images as well. So, if they give us permission, we'll put it up and if not, we'll let you know where you can find it in the News section or the message board.

Why is there little info on Buffy the Vampire Slayer on this site?

We try very hard to provide our visitors with all the latest Buffy info that sometimes include 'exclusive or early' tidbits and allow Buffy discussions at our message board as well. Although we recognize that Buffy is a large part of Sarah's career, we feel that since this is a Sarah site the focus should be on her instead of Buffy. Besides, there are hundreds of sites on the show that already deal specifically with all things Buffy. Visit our Links section for some of them.

How long did it take you to make this site? How much time does it take to maintain it?

It took Lawless about 50 hours to make the original version of the site and he had continually added to it over the years until his retirement. Today, we average about 40 hours a week between all staff.

Can I use the pictures and/or info from your site?

We get asked this question a lot and we thank those of you that are thoughtful enough to ask for our permission as opposed to the people that blatantly copy source code and other things from this site without asking or even giving us credit. You can use any information you find on this site, even the exclusive ones we sometimes post. All we ask is that you give us proper credit by indicating that the info came from SMGFAN.com.

As far as pictures go, we don't own the majority of the pictures on this site, although we do have copyright information for many of them. In order to get permission to use them, you would have to contact the magazine they came from or the original photographer. Most of the time the magazines don't object to fan sites like ours using their pictures as long as they're credited, however that doesn't mean that they give legal permission to use them either. So, we can't really object to anyone using most of the pictures on this site legally, although even though we don't own them, it takes a long time to buy the magazines, scan them, and put them onto the site. We would, however, appreciate credit and a link placed back to SMGFan.com if a significant amount of pictures are used (more than 10 or so).

The only pictures that we have a right to 'restrict' are our 'licensed' images. These images are clearly tagged with the photographer's name, the agency and our logo. It is very expensive to license images so we do not give permission to anyone to use them for public exhibition. These licensed images are exclusive to SMGFAN.com.

Do you like/take feedback? How quickly do you reply to e-mail sent to you?

We appreciate the feedback you send us and use them to make the site better for everyone. We try very hard to reply to the messages we receive as soon as possible. Sometimes, though, we just aren't able to reply right away. Be patient because we do try to respond to every message but if the question is the same as many others, we just address it in the News section. This saves us time because we receive about 20 e-mails a day.

How often do you update?

We try to update the News section as regularly as possible. 'Breaking News', of course, is posted right away. Although updates may seem small or insignificant, they take a few hours to do. Updating the Pictures, Fan Art and Articles sections is a different story. Whenever we get new pictures, they must be touched up, renamed, formatted for the site, thumbnails need to be made, and then the picture and information on it added to the existing format, which takes awhile to do. Things like articles and transcripts can take up to several hours themselves to transcribe the interviews. As much as we'd like to get all contributions and current articles added to the site quickly, we just aren't able to due to our hectic personal schedules.

Will you send me some pictures of Sarah/multimedia files/movies through e-mail?

No. Everything on this site can be downloaded. If you want to download a picture, position your mouse over the link, hold down the shift button, and press the left mouse button at the same time. A box will come up prompting you to save the file. The same works with most sound files (with the exception of Real Audio), and any other links on this site. Or you can bring the picture up, position the mouse over it, press the right mouse button, and click on Save As to save the file. If you're still having trouble downloading something or want a file that you can't download, let us know and we try to help you out.

Can I download all the pictures on the site in one large file?

Unfortunately, no. Since there are over 3000 pictures totaling over 200 megs, it would require a huge amount of bandwidth, and our ISP wouldn't appreciate it.
