The follow up to Nikki Stafford's Bite Me! book will be coming out later this year. More info to come so check back here.

Here's the latest press release for the much awaited soundtrack of the critically acclaimed Buffy musical episode 'Once More With Feeling'. Thanks to our friends at Rounder Records for the info. You can pre-order your copies NOW! We will bring to you all the latest tidbits on this CD as we receive them.

(Note: There seems to be some confusion/concerns on the number of tracks included in this CD. Hopefully, we should have an official list by next week so we'll post it then.)

'Once More, With Feeling'

Original Soundtrack to Emmy-Nominated Musical Episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

To Be Released By Mutant Enemy Music/Twentieth Century Fox Music/Rounder Records September 24, 2002

CD features songs written by series creator Joss Whedon and performed by Sarah Michelle Gellar and other cast members.

On September 24, 2002, Mutant Enemy Music/Twentieth Century Fox Music/Rounder Records will release 'Once More, With Feeling,' the original soundtrack to the landmark episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" originally broadcast November 6, 2001. The episode, which found Buffy and her undead nemeses expressing their thoughts in song, features lyrics and music written by series creator Joss Whedon and performed by the show's cast, including star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

"This is the first album for Mutant Enemy Records, my first soundtrack and my first musical. I couldn't be more excited about it," said Whedon. "It's about five dreams come true. It represents the hardest work I've ever done and more importantly, fully embodies my constant motto: surround yourself with talent and you can get away with having a lot less. No, no excuses: I'm proud of this work. I'm glad people will get a chance to hear it."

The CD release features ten tracks - the entire original soundtrack to the show, as well as an unreleased demo version of "Going Through the Motions," sung by Whedon and his wife Kai Cole, and score segments from three other "Buffy" episodes, "Restless," "Hush" and "The Gift." The album's artwork was designed by comic book artist Adam Hughes, known for his work on X-Men, Justice League, Wonder Woman and other collectible titles.

In 'Once More, With Feeling,' the residents of Sunnydale, CA, including Vampire Slayer Buffy Summers and her friends, find themselves unable to resist breaking into song at inopportune moments. Mundane events, from the issuing of a parking ticket to the successful removal of a mustard stain from a shirt, spawn big-budget Broadway numbers in the streets. Stricken by this musical curse, Buffy, her mentor Giles and her friends, must root out its nether-worldly cause.

Over the course of the episode and the CD, the cast pushes the envelope of pop culture with a series of songs that parody Broadway cliches and rock opera bombast, while equally effectively tugging at the audience's heartstrings. The opener "Going Through the Motions" features singing demons whose chorus line is interrupted by Buffy's wooden stake thrusts, and "I'll Never Tell" is a hilarious twist on an Astaire/Rogers song and dance. At the same time, the vampire Spike's kiss-off to Buffy (with whom he'd become romantically entwined) "Rest In Peace," conveys the character's anger with expressive hard rock punch. Giles' "Standing," in which he considers letting go as a father figure to the young Buffy, provides an unexpectedly touching moment.

Called "Wildly ambitious, sensationally entertaining and unexpectedly moving," by TV Guide critic Matt Roush, "Once More, With Feeling" is nominated for the Outstanding Music Direction Emmy Award. The Emmy ceremony will be held September 22 in Los Angeles.

Entertainment Weekly called the episode, "Classic Buffy," while the San Francisco Chronicle raved, "Impossibly great work... They're all wonderful songs... damn entertaining."

Set to debut its seventh season on September 24, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has gone from cult favorite to one of the most popular, celebrated shows on television. VHS and DVD releases of early episodes have sold more than two million copies worldwide, and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The TV Soundtrack' was a worldwide hit in 1999. Esquire's Tom Carson wrote, "'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' is the best show on the air - brainy, good-hearted, gloriously expressive TV poetry."

Sarah News

Sarah won 2 awards (Choice Movie Actress in a Comedy for Scooby Doo and Choice TV Actress in a Drama for Buffy) at the recent Teen Choice Awards taped last August 4th at the Universal City Walk in LA. These 2 new surfboards will be added to her collection, which now stand at 8. The show will air on FOX on August 19th so watch out for it.

Sarah has also won Zap2it's Battle of the Summer Movie Stars. Read how well Sarah did in this contest.

Cosmogirl's 'CosmoGirl of The Year' has entered it's final voting stage. Sarah is still in the running so go to Cosmogirl.com and vote for her. The winning 'girl' will grace the CG of the Year issue scheduled to come out in November.

Sarah's on the cover of the September issue of the U.K. FHM. Thanks to MAKAVELI for the info and Kermit for the scans.

The Xbox Buffy game has a new release date of September 13th. Early reviews indicate that fans will be amazed at how great the game is.

And what's all the fuss about the 'new' cast pic? Well, UPN has released its first Season 7 promo pic but the funny thing about it is that it's a recycled version of last season's promo pic. Rumor has it, though, that a 'real' Season 7 cast pic is coming out sometime before the season premiere on September 24th. We'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of season 7, TVGuide Online conducted a poll on whether Buffy could exist without Sarah. The results are below, verbatim from TV Guide:

Could Buffy the Vampire Slayer exist without Sarah Michelle Gellar?
No! The show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer for a reason. Sarah is the Chosen One and no one can replace her. 4361 75%
Yes! A new slayer would breathe new life into the aging series. And Faith the Vampire Slayer has a nice ring to it. 1489 25%
Total Votes: 5850

By a 3 to 1 margin, viewers who voted believe that Sarah must be a part of the show for it to continue to be a success. For our part, we would like to see a spinoff show that essentially continues the show with the same cast but with a new name, if for some reason Sarah should leave.

The soundtrack for the critically acclaimed Buffy episode Once More With Feeling is apparently scheduled for a September 24th release according to Rounder.com. We'll keep you informed of the latest developments on this CD.

The Buffy Yearbook will go on sale September 17th in the U.S.. Watch out for it.

We recently spoke with James Gunn, writer of the movie Scooby Doo. Read part one of our interview here! We want to thank James again for conducting this interview. We originally talked with him on the red carpet of the Scooby Doo world premiere in Hollywood, but our equipment was possessed by demons and swallowed his comments, whole. We are glad to have gotten a second chance to ask him our questions from that day.

Sarah News

One of the biggest news in the SMG community these days is the 2002 Emmy Awards. Once again, Sarah and Buffy were left out of the major categories in this year's nominations. Buffy did, however, receive 4 technical nominations in hairstyling, makeup and music for the episode 'Once More With Feeling'. Although it has been another disappointing Emmy year, Buffy's 4 nods are still better than none. For some Emmy articles, visit Time.com, TV Guide Online, Zap2it.com, SciFiWire.com and E!Online.com.

James Poniewozik of Time.com captured the fans' feelings about the Emmy snub with this comment:¾"All in all, there were more surprisingly just nominations than egregious snubs, though we might as well admit that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (which is wittier than "The West Wing," more suspenseful than "Law & Order" and more inventive than the slick "CSI") could cure cancer and not get a thank-you from Emmy. (It got a few minor nods for music, makeup and hairstyling.) "

UPN has announced that Buffy's Season 7 will premiere on September 24th. Spoilers are already starting to surface and with all the speculations that this might be Sarah's last season, things could definitely get crazy. So, hang on tight and enjoy the ride!

Fox Interactive recently announced that they are making a new Buffy The Vampire Slayer game for the Gameboy Advance scheduled for a 2003 release. Read the full story. ¾

Variety magazine reported that Sarah is in negotiations to star in a film entitled "Semester Abroad". The project, "a fish-out-of-water comedy that follows a tough girl from Queens on scholarship to an elite London university, where her no-nonsense demeanor puts her at odds with its stuffed-shirt denizens", is scheduled to start filming in May 2003. Welcome to the new SMGFAN.com! As most of you would probably notice, the new layout is very different from the ones Lawless and us have had in the past. We knew that it was time for a major makeover and so here it is. We're not, however, completely done yet. It will take a few more weeks to switch over 500 plus pages to the new design and we're working on other additions to the site as well. Rest assured that we're doing our best to get everything completed as soon as possible. In the meantime, we hope that you like and enjoy what you see so far. Special thanks go to Dave Little for helping us turn a vision into reality.

SMGFAN.com’s EXCLUSIVE SMG Interview

Since we didnêt have the opportunity to interview Sarah from the red carpet when we attended the Scooby Doo premiere on June 8th, she was still kind enough to answer our questions. Read below to see what she has to say.

SMGFAN: What originally attracted you to this project?
Sarah: "When I first heard about the project, I was skeptical. But when I read the script, I loved it and knew I had to do the project. It was after all "Scooby Doo."

SMGFAN: Did you have any input on how Daphne was portrayed in the film and if so, how much?
Sarah: "Yes I did. I wanted Daphne to be strong but not too strong, to find herself and her inner strength and voice.”

SMGFAN: Was it hard bringing this 2 dimensional cartoon character to life and were you nervous about it?

Sarah: "Yes, I was nervous. It is very difficult to make a two-dimensional character three-dimensional. I studied all of the cartoons for the way she held her hands, how she walked and moved, etc."

SMGFAN: Besides working with Freddie, what was the best part about making this film?
Sarah:
"Filming in Australia and working with Linda, Matt and an entire cast and crew that was amazing."

Very special thanks go to Ms. K., Ms. E. and most especially Sarah for taking the time to do this for us.

Wow! The last 3 weeks have been wonderful for all SMG fans. Sarah was everywhere promoting Scooby Doo, which incidentally opened in N. America on June 14th. We have all of her talk show appearances, interviews, pictures and articles from her promo work for the film at our Message Board. So, if you missed them or havenêt seen them at all, check them out there. Thanks to Stevenson214, SMGVBEST and everyone else who posted information and shared multimedia files with our community. We plan to create a special Scooby Doo page in the near future.

Speaking of Scooby Doo, box office reports show that the film earned a whopping $54 million in its opening weekend. Scooby Doo has become the •2nd best June opener of all timeê (earlier reports indicated that it had become the top June opener) and is now ranked •the third best opening of 2002ê just after Spiderman and Star Wars. Thanks to Zap2it.com for the info. Congratulations to everyone involved in the film!

Also, some members of our community were lucky enough to have seen and/or interacted with Sarah during her promo appearances this month. Check out some of their stories here: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

According to reports, MTV Movie Awards 2002 was the highest rated in the showês history. Weêre biased but we at SMGFAN.com believe that Sarah played a major part in this. She and Jack did an excellent job. Congratulations to both of them!

Most of you have probably heard by now that SMGFAN.com attended the premiere of Scooby Doo in L.A. last June 8th. We were invited by Warner Bros. to be in the •Press Lineê to cover the happenings for the site. It was truly a wonderful experience for us. Weêve written up our take on that special day in a couple of reports. Weêve also included some pictures and vidcaps from the •red carpetê and •after partyê. Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, our video from the red carpet will not be made available at this time. Special thanks go to Warner Bros. for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful event. Go here to check our reports.

Our Scooby Doo (SMG) Trivia Contest has officially ended. Thank you to all who entered. Winners will be notified via e-mail and then posted on the site. Check back here for the list in a few weeks.

We will be making some changes to the site in the next several weeks. As most of you know, weêve been having problems with our extremely high traffic and bandwidth. We average 2 million hits and over 100 gigs a month. We love the fact that the site has become more popular in the last 8 months but maintaining it is becoming such a challenge. Be patient with us as we try to make the site better for the SMG community. We promise that we will continue to do our best to bring you a site worth your time and loyalty.

We are currently working on fan submissions. We hope to be able to get them all up sometime this summer.

Lastly, this month has been extremely great for SMGFAN.com. Not only did we have the privilege to work with Warner Bros. in promoting Scooby Doo and attend its premiere in L.A., but we also received two very special public acknowledgments. The first one was from TVGuide.com. They had this to say about us: "While the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't have an official site, SMGFan.com offers all you'd ever want to know about the Slayer." For the complete article, go here. The other was from E! Entertainmentês •Revealed With Jules Asnerê, which featured Sarah on its June 12th episode. SMGFAN.com was credited in the •Special Thanksê for the help the site gladly extended to them. Thanks to E! Entertainment for the recognition. Glenn and I share any credit we receive with the entire Simply SMGFAN community whose continued support and contributions have helped make the site as worthwhile and as comprehensive as it is today. So, thank you everyone!
