Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we hope that we never forget the true meaning of Christmas...

Santa's Secret Wish
By Betty Werth

On Christmas Eve, a young boy with light in his eyes, Looked deep into Santa's, to Santa's surprise, And said as he nestled on Santa's broad knee, "I want your secret. Tell it to me." He leaned up and whispered in Santa's good ear, "How do you do it, year after year?

"I want to know how, as you travel about, Giving gifts here and there, you never run out. How is it, dear Santa, that in your pack of toys You have plenty for all of the world's girls and boys? Stays so full, never empties, as you make your way From rooftop to rooftop, to homes large and small, From nation to nation, reaching them all?"

And Santa smiled kindly and said to the boy, "Don't ask me hard questions. Don't you want a toy?" But the child shook his head, and Santa could see That he needed the answer. "Now listen to me," He told the small boy with the light in his eyes, "My secret will make you sadder, and wise.

"The truth is that my sack is magic. Inside It holds millions of toys for my Christmas Eve ride. But although I do visit each girl and each boy I don't always leave them a gaily wrapped toy. Some homes are hungry, some homes are sad, Some homes are desperate, some homes are bad. Some homes are broken, and children there grieve. Those homes I visit, but what should I leave?

"My sleigh is filled with the happiest stuff, But for homes where despair lives, toys aren't enough. So I tiptoe in, kiss each girl and boy, And pray with them that they'll be given the joy Of the sprit of Christmas, the spirit that lives In the heart of the dear child who gets not, but gives.

If only God hears me and answers my prayer, When I visit next year, what I will find there Are homes filled with peace, and with giving, and love And boys and girls gifted with light from above. It's a very hard task, my smart little brother, To give toys to some and to give prayers to others. But the prayers are the best gifts, the best gifts indeed. For God has a way of meeting each need.

"That's part of the answer. The rest, my dear youth, Is that my sack is magic. And that is the truth. In my sack I carry on Christmas Eve day More love that a Santa could e'er give away. The sack never empties of love, or of joys 'Cause inside it are prayers, and hopes. Not just toys. The more that I give, the fuller it seems, Because giving is my way of fulfilling dreams.

"And do you know something? You've got a sack, too. It's as magic as mine, and it's inside of you. It never gets empty, it's full from the start. It's the center of lights, and of love. It's your heart. And if on this Christmas you want to help me, Don't be so concerned with the gifts 'neath your tree. Open that sack called your heart, and share Your joy, your friendship, your wealth, your care."

The light in the small boy's eyes was glowing. "Thanks for the secret. I've got to be going." "Wait, little boy," Said Santa, "don't go. Will you share? Will you help? Will you use what you know?" And just for a moment the small boy stood still,
Touched his heart with his small hand and whispered "I will".

The Official Scooby Doo 2 site and Countingdown.com now have the full trailer for Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Check it out!

Unfortunately, the flu bug prevented Sarah from appearing on V Graham Norton at all. In case you're concerned, she is on her way to recovering.

In a recent interview with Joss Whedon on ugo.com, he touched upon his decision to end Buffy. He said that the phrase "stop filming that now" could be spoken on the set of Angel, possibly by himself. "It could happen," said Whedon. "I did that on Buffy. I was definitely done after seven years. A lot of people attribute that to [Sarah Michelle Gellar], but after seven years I was burnt out. I was just really worn down as we came into the seventh season. Of course we tried hard to make it great, but seven years is a long time and I was tired."

Sarah News

Graham Norton's people have let us know that Sarah will not be able to tape her interview on Monday as earlier reported because she is not feeling well. Her appearance may be re-scheduled for another day this week. We will let you know once we receive more info.

According to TVguide.com, Sarah has decided not to make a guest appearance on Angel this season. Says Joss Whedon, creator of both series: "She feels it's not the right time." She was in talks to do 2 episodes during the May sweeps.

Sarah has signed on to star in a new film entitled "The Grudge", which is a remake of the popular Japanese thriller "Ju-On". From the Hollywood Reporter:

Gellar holding a 'Grudge' against Raimi, Col Pics
by Josh Spector

Sarah Michelle Gellar, most recently seen on the big screen in "Scooby-Doo," will take on a more frightening role in her next starring gig as she is set to topline the horror remake "The Grudge."

The project, being produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and distributed domestically by Columbia Pictures, is an English-language version of the Japanese thriller "Ju-On."

The film's title refers to a curse that befalls someone who dies in the grip of a powerful rage. Those who encounter this murderous supernatural curse die, and a new one is born -- passed like a virus from victim to victim in an endless, growing chain of horror.

The project is being directed by the original's writer-director, Takashi Shimizu, from a script by Stephen Susco. Raimi is producing along with his Ghost House partner Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise, who produced the original film. Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane of Senator International will serve as executive producers alongside Roy Lee and Doug Davison, who originally gave GHP a look at the project.

Columbia co-president of production Matt Tolmach and director of production Shannon Gaulding are overseeing for the studio, with a January start date planned. The film will shoot in Tokyo at Toho Studios.

Gellar, best known for her starring role on the long-running television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," has appeared in such films as "Cruel Intentions" and "Scream 2." She next appears in the upcoming "Scooby-Doo" sequel and also is attached to star in "Romantic Comedy" for MGM.

Gellar is repped by the Firm, ICM and attorney Kevin Yorn.

From the San Bernardino County Sun (sbsun.com):

Buffy lends bite

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar came to San Bernardino County to do a little community service Friday.

As part of a story for an upcoming issue of Marie Claire magazine, the television and movie star was looking for Old Fire victims who need children's clothing.

Gellar was directed to the Salvation Army's Hospitality House, where a few fire victims are staying. Major Russell Fritz said residents recognized the "Scooby Doo' star right away.

"They all screamed and yelled when she walked in. Even the mothers jumped up and down,' he said.

She handed out teddy bears and mingled with the kids before heading back to Tinseltown.

Sarah co-hosted the Young Survival Coalition’s 5th Anniversary on Oct. 9th. For some pictures from this event, click here. People Online had a brief mention of this event:

Gellar's New Role: From Slayer to Angel
Stephen M. Silverman

Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar starred in a new role in Manhattan late last week, taking center stage at the Angel Orensanz Foundation gala to help raise money and awareness in the battle against breast cancer.

Outfitted in what the New York Observer described as a slinky low-cut brown satin dress and a $11,000 Mikimoto pearl necklace, Gellar, exclaimed, "You can come take it off me!" (She meant the jewelry, not the dress.)

"But wait!" she cautioned as the men in the audience chuckled at her offer. "You have to pay for it first!"

The auction, held as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, benefited the Young Survival Coalition, an international non-profit group for those under 40 who battle breast cancer.

Several survivors of the disease were in the audience of the gala, as was proved when Gellar asked them to identify themselves by a show of hands.

"When I was playing Buffy," the actress told the crowd, "women were always telling me that I inspired them. And looking at you all, for the first time ever, I know how that feels. You inspire me."

Speaking of the Young Survival Coalition benefit, one of our members, LilBufBuf, attended this event. She posted about her experience and shared her pictures on our message board. Also, on page 7 of that thread is another story from someone who attended the same function. It looks like both experiences were positive and memorable.

New York Post Online (Oct. 14) had a short article on Breast Cancer Awareness month, which mentioned Sarah as one of the celebs helping the cause by sporting the Tied To The Cause silk scarf. Buffy Helps Slay Cancer

The Independent (UK) News reported that Sarah is among the 150+ actors who are petitioning to overturn a ban imposed by the big US movie studios on film-makers in their attempt to stop film piracy. The actors claim that this could hurt small budget films from winning the Oscars. Full Story.

Rumors are still swirling that Sarah has already signed on to guest star on Angel next year. We’ve been told that this is not a done deal yet. Stay tuned.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer online had a short blurb on the little scar on Sarah's nose. Read the story here.

Big themes and terrible choices.” This short piece is worth reading.

Sarah has received another compliment from a former Buffy co-worker. This time it’s from Christopher Gorham (Harrison John of Popular) who played James Stanley in the episode I Only Have Eyes For You. He continued to say that "on one of the days where we were actually working together, she comes up to me and says, 'Chris, listen, how do you want to play this scene?' Blown away. I was so floored. I couldn't believe it…coming onto a series where she's already a huge star, you don't expect her to do that. She was unbelievable, just great. Nothing bad to say about her." Full story

The drought is over! The SMG fan community is buzzing with new tidbits on Sarah.

First up is her ad for Ford’s 2003 Tied To The Cause Breast Cancer Awareness campaign benefiting The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The ad is one of several showing celebrities wearing the “Ford breast cancer awareness scarf in a national ad campaign designed to garner attention for this important cause”. The limited-edition silk scarves will be available this fall in Bloomingdale’s stores and their web site, which is currently featuring Sarah’s ad on the home page.

Sarah revealed in her August 8th Extra interview that she will be on The Simpsons this season. Stay tuned for more details. To watch this interview from the Scooby Doo set, click here. Or, you may want to check out Extra’s official site for a write up on the interview as well as a clip.

We’ve added more images from the 2003 Teen Choice Awards to our gallery. Thanks to Janna23 for sharing the pictures from her private collection. You can watch Sarah’s TCA acceptance speech here

Now for some Buffy related news. Armin Shimerman, who played Principal Snyder from seasons 1-3, had some very nice things to say about Sarah in his latest interview with FilmForce at IGN.com. He said, “Sarah was just brilliant. In the three years that I worked with her, I don't think I ever saw her flub a line. She's just phenomenal that way. And she was capable of just joking, joking, joking – the sound man would say, "Speed," she's still joking, the director would say, "Action," and she'd be back to being a very serious Buffy, doing what she had to do. I'm just blown away by her talent.” It’s always great to hear well established and respected actors give credit to younger actors and recognize them for their work.

Julie Benz aka Darla also had good things to say about Sarah at the End of Days Convention held in the UK last May. When asked about Sarah during a Q&A, Julie said “I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is an amazing Buffy and watching her in the first season I mean that girl worked her ass off to get that show made and to make it what it is. She was only 19 years-old at the time and she blew me away with her professionalism, with her work ethic. I don’t think the show could have been made without her and I don’t think it would have been a success without her." We think so too. But then again, we’re biased.

BTVS may be over but its legend will live on. Slayage.tv (The Online International Journal Of Buffy Studies) is compiling accounts of how Buffy fans discovered the show. If you would like to participate in this project entitled ‘Discovering Buffy’, please visit their site for more info.
