SMGBoard
Rules and Guidelines

Back to SMGFan.com Posting Board

  1. This board is dedicated to the discussion of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s career and public life. Sometimes, it is hard not to bring up some part of her personal life in our topics, but we try to avoid discussing it here. For example, Freddie Prinze Jr. is a part of both her private and public lives so there will be topics with him in it. However, discussing whether or not he is good enough for her is NOT acceptable. Sarah’s personal life is her business and we respect that.

  2. All opinions about SMG are welcome, even if they are negative or different, provided that they are expressed in a RESPECTFUL manner. Fetishist or sexual threads and comments (implicit or otherwise) are not tolerated because this changes the focus to someone’s body parts, which is considered disrespectful.

  3. NO FLAMING will be tolerated on this board. “Flaming” is when you make a personal attack on a poster (by calling them names) instead of commenting on their point of view/opinion. Focus your reply and comments on the issue itself and not on the poster. If you disagree with a comment, clearly explain why.

  4. Paparazzi photos are not allowed on our board. A 'paparazzi photo' is a candid photo taken without Sarah's approval. Although we understand that these people are only doing their “jobs” and trying to make a living, we do not wish to support them and their behavior. Every time someone posts one of their candid and intrusive photos, they benefit from it in some way. Consequently, they are encouraged to continue. This board will NOT contribute to the stalking of Sarah.

  5. Use of foul or offensive language will not be tolerated and could result in the poster being banned from the board. We have filtered out a few of the more offensive words. This doesn't give you the permission to mask these "offensive" words by changing one letter or substituting '!' for 'i', for example. Any variation is unacceptable. Always act as though Sarah is watching.

  6. When posting a topic on the “Buffy/Angel Spoilers Forum”, PLEASE DO NOT PUT SPOILERS IN THE TITLE. The reason is this; when people first access the message board, you see a list of the different forums and on the very right (last column) are the topics with the most recent replies. If you use a spoiler in your title then it appears in that column every time someone posts a reply to that topic. When this happens, everyone (including those who are trying to stay spoiler free) accessing the message board can then see that topic and be spoiled.

  7. NO BASHING of Sarah, other celebrities or characters will be tolerated on this board. If you do not like someone for whatever reason, that is your choice. However, we will not allow this board to be used for openly ridiculing or making offensive comments about the person or character you don't like. We expect you all to be able to share your thoughts in a mature and respectful manner.

  8. No selling of Buffy or Sarah items will be tolerated on our board. Our tape trading policy is that you may post to seek the email addresses of others who might want to trade with you. Once this has happened, we would like that discussion of the details of trades go to email.
  9. We do not allow posting of Buffy episodes. These violate copyright laws that FOX has made clear are very important to them, and we respect this. For the same reason, we also do not allow pictures from Photo Agencies (those pictures with the words over the top). You may post a link to the agency web site (but not directly to the pictures) and tell people how to find the photo.
  10. The only advertising of your own site should be in your posting signature.
  11. All information you post on the board including pictures, stories, magazine/news excerpts and info from other web sites must be accompanied by the source and a link to it, if at all possible. If you borrow images from other sites, leave the tags on (if they are tagged) or at least give the scanner and/or the site credit. Also, claiming ownership of someone else’s work or info will not be tolerated on this board.
  12. Pictures (manipulated or otherwise) posted in any of the forums or linked to that are NOT in good taste (offensive, highly sexual in nature etc.) are not allowed and WILL be deleted without explanation.
  13. Do not HOTLINK. Hotlinking is defined as when you use pictures from other sites without uploading them first to your own server. If you hotlink, everytime someone views the picture on your site, it uses up someone else's resources, which they pay for. This is called 'bandwidth stealing' and is very poor nettiquette.

  14. Signatures are limited to 300 characters. Also, use of pictures in signatures are not allowed.

  15. We Do Not use rankings on this board. Having more posts doesn't mean you are better than someone else. It's not a popularity symbol. Everyone is of equal importance when it comes to contributing ideas to this messageboard. Also, members cannot create polls, but they can submit ideas for polls to the admins. This is mainly to avoid repetition and clutter. We are available by clicking "moderating team" link on the front page of the messageboard.
  16. Due to our continuous bandwidth concerns, Off Topic threads or conversations are NOT permitted and will be deleted without explanation.

  17. PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUALLY TEST THE GUIDELINE LIMITS OR DISREGARD STAFF REMINDERS/WARNINGS (including those posted in threads). Anyone who makes it clear that they are testing the limits and fails to heed warnings by the staff alerting them to this trend will be subject to removal from the board.

These rules are subject to change. There are 4 Administrators and 3 Moderators on this board. These are the 7 people who decide on issues that come up regarding the acceptability of a topic, a discussion and a poster’s behavior.

If you have any questions and comments regarding the board in general, post them on the Site Questions/Comments Forum. However, if your comment or concern is of a personal nature, please feel free to e-mail one of the 7 people mentioned above.

The rules are here to make sure that the board runs smoothly, avoid any problems and is enjoyable to everyone. Thanks for participating!
